Chasey Doesn't Quite Catch

The Age

KISS CHASEY 2.5/5

By Cameron Marshall, Loop Bar, 23 Meyers Place, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays until April 28

CAMERON Marshall is one of those self-deprecating comedians who takes the piss out of himself, his failures, and his search for the perfect relationship while going through a back catalogue of his girlfriends.

And while his wry humour and everyday bloke persona is engaging and identifiable, he lacks that extra insight and edge that would have made the show hilarious.

There are some good chuckles in this show, mostly in the first section, when he's relating his schoolyard romances. Marshall hits his stride early, but loses his way too quickly and struggles to find his way to the end, especially when he starts talking about online dating.

Please note, this is now familiar and hackneyed material for comedians and should be avoided at all costs.

But at least he has some funny video footage of ex-girlfriends to break up the show. If only he'd found that edge he really needs.
